Legends of Youth

Tiger by the Tail

Thoughtfully, Caitlyn watched the others around her and pondered next steps.

Concerns flitted through her mind, and – though she didn’t realize it – across her face, expressive when she was unguarded. “I don’t know how I’m going to get these guys to work together. Jayden is dying to get back to someplace with electricity, and I don’t blame him. Poor Paul only wants to go home, though by tomorrow will have changed his mind again. I wish…”

The thought trailed off as she watched Peter storm by. Clearly something was bothering him, but he practically seethed with ‘leave me alone’ energy. Sighing, she wished again for a way to connect with the fierce Ahroun.

Attempting to let go of what couldn’t be fixed right now, her mind wandered toward the idea of rites. None of the useful ones were interesting. She felt compelled to balance her desire to learn something she’d be good at against what might be most useful for the whole pack, and in the end found herself lacking. There seemed to be very little that she would be particularly qualified for, aside from the small hunting rites that Windwalker had snidely commented every cub should learn.

Of course, admitting that she was lost and confused would be a sign of weakness, and she was absolutely certain showing weakness would be a very bad idea. The whole Alpha situation was already out of control; once you have the tiger by the tail – " … or would that be wolf?" she wondered – there’s really nothing to do but hold on. Had she really known what she was signing up for she might have made other choices.

Shaking her head, she stood up and dusted off her new leggings. There hadn’t been another choice. If all the world is ranked in order of dominance, then refusing to be ranked below someone else means you’ve gotta be above them. And if you look around and don’t see anyone you’re willing to rank below, then there’s your answer.

It wasn’t much of an answer, but it was all she had.

What the hell just happened here?

Well that was an interesting evening. Not that the time since I last wrote down my thoughts hasn’t been. Killing a zombie bear, dealing with crazed spirits and the slow trickle learning about what I really am now.

But today we entered a kern(?), or however you spell it. It was one of the Fox and meet some interesting members. Really nice ones after you got to know them. I was very on edge at first but started feeling at home once Brickhouse rejoined us. Hope they were not too hard on him. They are willing to teach us things, and we can stay as long as we need to. There is so much to learn and I was really starting to feel at home.

All was going well and we were learning a lot until we got to rankings….

I have given up on trying for leader, I don’t have what this group is looking for. They want a kind pushover who pats them on the head and says “there there, it’s going to be ok”. I clearly cannot be that so I will suffice for something lower in the ranks.

Oh but how low, ABSOLUTE FUCKING BOTTOM IS NOT ACCEPTABLE! I’m powerful, intelligent and can handle my own yet I’m stuck at the bottom with Jayden who seems as useful as a used tampon. Even that loose canon Paul is ranked above me, most of his successes were dumb luck and stupidly reckless. Being below Doug is something I can deal with; out of everyone he has been the most crucial member having better knowledge and useful abilities. Doug has pulled us out of more situations than I can count. I respectfully bow down to him.

But the biggest knife in the back? Oh yeah I am rank way below Brickhouse. Let me first off say its not Brickhouse that I have a problem with, he is really kind in a goofy sort of way but is dumb as rocks and clearly just a meat shield. Yet HE IS RANKED ABOVE ME FOR FUCK SAKES! Clearly I am not appreciated here in this “pack”. I am clearly too nice and forgiving, they are taking it as a sign of weakness.

I have done so much for this pack, never once being selfish or putting us in a bad situation, yet I the most well rounded and stable person here and here I am at the GOD DAMN BOTTOM OF THE TOTEM!
I didn’t speak up during the rankings out of respect for them but clearly they have no respect for me. Something needs to change, but what, what could I possible do? I wonder if another pack in this Kern(?) would accept and appreciate me. They sure have treated me with more respect than these fools.
And what is with this lame ass name they gave me? Clearly out of pity because they couldn’t think of anything else. Again I kept my mouth shut out of respect.

Right now is not the time to make a decision. I need to be calm and collective, keep face and go on with this for now. If I let others know this is bothering me it will be another weakness for them to exploit, I must keep this inside me.

Fighting the Bear Spirit

Our heroes finally came to the culmination of their quest.

Having successfully acquired the Spear of the Bear Spirit, and consulting with the spirits of Falcon in the area, they have tracked down the location of the biggest, nastiest, ugliest bear in the area.

The pack slowly crept up to the edge of the cave the bear was in.

Doug volunteered to sneak in and try to herd it out corner. Rather than try to fight it directly, he decided to go with the “piss, howl, and run” technique. While it certainly woke the bear up, not enough for it to give chase.

So, instead, the pack all decided to enter the cave together – with Paul using his Lambent Flame to provide light.

The pack surrounded the massive DemonBear, each doing their best to cause damage to the thing. The creature hit like a truck, nearly taking Paul down in a single hit. Paul retaliated by trying to take a bite out of the creature’s haunch, only to be rewarded with retching at the taste of the creature’s rotten flesh.

Nothing seemed to penetrate it’s thick hide, until Caitlyn finally managed to score a hit with the Spear. The bear howled in pain, and turned its full fury against her. It clobbered her, almost bringing her to the ground. Brickhouse, enraged at seeing his packmember injured, attacked the beast with brutal fury and tore it apart.

The pack saw the Bane spirit disappear across the umbra. After a moment of respite, the pack decided to hand the Spear off to Paul and dive across the umbra in pursuit of the bane.

Sure enough, there it was. A huge Bear-Bane, waiting to attack the Garou who had caused it so much trouble. While this creature did not hit as hard as when it inhabited a corporeal body, the wounds incurred by bane would heal only with difficulty.

The pack set upon the spirit. Having learned that only the spear could really damage it, this time the strategy was to distract the bear enough for Paul to land a killing blow. Doug remained close to Paul so as to heal if necessary. Jayden opted to grapple the bear – but since the creature was so much larger than he, it was more a matter of riding the bane. Before long, Paul managed to drive the spear home.

The spirit exploded, leaving behind a small gaffling of a Polar Bear spirit. The pack spoke to the nacient spirit, and learned of its plight.

Doug gave the creature a little Gnosis before sending it on its way.

Now the pack must trek back to the Sept of the Arctic Fox to finish their Rite of Passage.

Theurge is hard

So we killed an icky big rotting bear creature! Pack!

That set free the bane skinned icky bear inside the rotting bear creature. We killed that with the spear! Pack!

Then the bear spirit said its kin would come back! Yay pack!

But I don’t think Paul likes me. He said he didn’t understand what happened, but when I explained he snapped at me and said I wasn’t going to succeed. But its my job as a Theurge to explain spirit things to the pack. Maybe I am a bad Theurge? I don’t want to be a bad Theurge.

I will have to try harder!

Mountain 1 : Anonymous Daemon 0

I have to keep this brief because my battery is quickly running out but I fucking hate the wild! At least we got the spear but now we have to find and kill some bear. After that is done maybe we can go back to civilization, with power, and data, and indoor plumbing.

A few funny things did happen on the way to the spear like I lost my phone and thankfully Brickhouse found it. The weird part of that is he did not remember finding it… Though he is not all there if you know what I mean. Also I can’t climb a mountain to save my life, but on the pulse side whatever was at the top did not feel me a threat and none of the pesky snow arrows got aimed at me.

I did finally make my way to the top with much help from my new (friends?, pack?, whatever?) they are to me. But not getting up in time for the fight made me feel useless and frustrated that I was not pulling my weight

Well next time I see a mountain and get told to climb I know my first response will be Fuck this Shit I’ll set up a nice camp down here for you all to come back too. With Coco!

Well it time to go off and kill a bear, that should be exciting.

Human clothes were very strange. But then, human fur was very strange too. All patchy and not very warm. No wonder they needed to make special fur for themselves.

But why make the special fur so complicated? So many pieces. “Boxers” that werent boxlike at all, and not very warm. Why bother, especially because they made it harder to walk all bunched up like that. And why the hole in the back?

Pants, with zippers and belts AND buttons. So many things! He much preferred his pants, with a bib and clips!

Shirts with such tiny buttons, so hard to close! He was smart though, he had tied the bottom together using a thing called a knot.

But weirdest were shoes. Taking away the gripping power of toes and claws just didn’t make sense. Better cold feet than not being able to feel the ground, but apparently he had to wear shoes to fit in.

Hats however, hats were wonderful! They were easy to put on, didn’t need any fancy fastening, and kept your head warm without taking away any senses.

He would have to collect some more hats.

It’s so nice to not have be a wolf all the time again.

We followed the road today till we found a town that I think is called Sisimiut, that I now know is in Greenland, from the sign outside. It looks like a quaint town out in BFE but I have a feeling that it may be a few decades in the past and I won’t easily find internet. We then decided to search for a clothing store and supplies.

While we were exploring the edge of town Doug and Peter started to explore around in the Umbra. All of a sudden we all heard weasel exclaim and Caitlyn upped and vanished to help then, and next thing I know Paul went running all exposed through town to the building Doug and Peter were exploring in the other sides version of the town.

Oh did I mention apparently buildings and such also some times show up in the Umbra… I wonder if computers do too…?

Back to my story. I decided to take a stealthier and smarter route to the building in town, laying low and hiding behind every bush and wall I could find, just in time to hear Paul start whining. Next thing I see from my vantage point a man the size of three men, who kind of reminded me of the guy in Goonies, comes out the Bar door and starts talking to Paul… WAT he is talking to Paul? How, what the fuck. It ends up he is a garou like us and needs help with his right of passage.

Long story shorter he led us to a clothing store where I found a cool orange shirt and some cargo pants. Plus I was able to grab a second jacket just in case. When we were about to leave I see Paul looking up at the security camera by the register. Well I took care of that by picking the lock to the office in the back and took a tape that looked like it was from the 70s from the recorder back there and put in the tape for the day before, hopefully they will think someone forgot to switch the tapes out.

We let ourselves out and did that ceremony with all the spit and stuff so we could add the new member Brickhouse, did I not mention the big guys name is that, real truth in advertising there, to our pack and that leads up to now.

Next up on the agenda is to Kill a bear and get some magic spear for Brickhouse’s right of passage and find a place to charge my laptop… SHIT should have done that while I was finding cloths in the store.

Going with the flow

This situation is starting to feel more natural. I can seem myself getting used to this. I think I will keep up with putting down my thoughts, this could be an excellent documentary opportunity. Sure would be great to be published!

  • Its odd being so disconnected from everything. I am really falling behind on my reading, I know that new book I have been waiting for is out. Also so behind on my news sites, wonder if NASA did anything recently?
  • Finished off my first Bane with Doug, that sure felt good. Need to try and protect him more, he keeps getting hurt.
  • Doug is proving to be the packs biggest asset and knowledge. I enjoy working with him and will need to keep him by my side.
  • Got some clothes, funny it seemed more like a chore this time. I used to enjoy picking out clothes.
  • Paul is going to be a problem, his need to contact his parents will get the pack killed. Will have to keep a close eye on that one. He just enrages me. Its not like I don’t want to assure my former family that I am ok, but not at the pack’s expense. Hrm this pack is really growing on me.
  • We meet/accepted Brickhouse into our pack, this may of been a bit premature as he has not proven himself enough yet… but I also don’t think it is a mistake. We could use some more muscle in the pack.
  • Pack hierarchy is starting to form… this is not good. How did I let myself fall this far down the chain? I know I can lead this bunch but I need to prove it. It’s not that I have a problem with Caitlyn, but it’s me who is destined to lead this pack.

I can do this!

Welcome to Sisimiut

Our heroes, now joined together as a pack under the auspices of Weasel, decided to follow the road to town. After much internal debate on precisely how to move, while keeping the Hearthstone safe, the pack split into two groups; one for each side of the velvet curtain.

Following the road, they eventually came upon the town of Sisimiut. Caitlyn figured out that the language being used on the signs was close to Icelandic, but not the same.

Stalking quietly into the borders of the town the pack spotted a small building, bedecked with garish lights, and a long building. They decide to send Doug and Peter to investigate.

Doug and Peter discover that the long building is some sort of Town Hall, though the Ancestor Spirits there declared it to be the ‘Lodge’. One of the Ancestors told Doug that there was another Garou back the way they came.

So Doug and Peter returned to the smaller building. There, they had a discovered that there was a Bane spirit inhabiting the building. Doug and Peter quickly defeated it, while Caitlyn rushed over to help, after instinctively switching to the Umbra.

Paul ran over to help in the real world, but was unable to see where the problem was. Instead, he whined a little, which caught the attention of Brickhouse who was inside. Brickhouse came out and within pretty short order the pack all reunited and spoke with Brickhouse.

Brickhouse told them stories of his own failed Rite of Passage, and the pack told Brickhouse the story of how they all came to be together.

However, the pack realized that they still needed clothing, and that was the priority. Lucky for them, Brickhouse knew where the clothing store was and led them over to get some. It took some time, but the pack managed to get the clothes they needed. There was a security concern when Paul ‘accidentally’ stepped in front of the camera to get the first-aid kit, but Jayden was able to remove the security tape.

The pack headed out of town, and decided to invite Brickhouse to join their pack. “Well, you guys don’t hurt me, and I need new friends. Okay.”, he said. Templeton helped Doug lead the pack in another Rite to bring Brickhouse into the fold.

Now, the pack has decided to help Brickhouse complete his Rite, and Weasel has said he will recognize the completion of their own Rite at the same time.
